Filing cabinets made of steel remain in common use

Metal filing cabinets and other metal furniture made with stamped and pressed sheet metal were designed shortly after World War two as a means of implementing no longer needed wartime factories. All kinds of furniture for the home and office was made in this way. However, within the course of 20 years the popularity of these items waned considerably. However functional steel kitchen cabinets may have been they were not at all elegant. Today the only item from that period and that system still remaining in mass production are metal filing cabinets.
